Redox Regulation of Plant Development

Résumé

All over their life cycle, plants are subjected to environmental constraints which affect many aspects of their developmental processes. Reactive Oxygen species are important signaling molecules integrating environmental stimuli and mediating redox regulation of plant development and stress response. Plant growth and formation of new organs is dependent on cell proliferation and differentiation occurring in meristematic tissues. In this chapter, we first overview how redox regulation maintain proper functioning of meristematic tissues. Then, we show that redox regulation controls major developmental processes like seed development, shoot and root architecture, flower development and gamete formation. Redox regulation targets key actors of hormone signaling and transcriptional networks, through sophisticated post-transcriptional modifications of proteins. Thus, we highlight how changes in ROS and redox homeostasis influence plant growth and development in response to environmental constraints.
